The firemen are from all over the five boroughs of New York City, these images show their everyday movements on shift between the boundaries of Brownsville and East New York, which has had some of the highest crime rates in Brooklyn since the late 1950s- East New York being considered the borough’s murder capital.
The firehouse is one of the busiest in the United States, partly due to the large area it covers and partly due to the social problems associated with poverty from crime and drug addiction, which have been prevalent in the area for decades.
